Medications help us combat disease and treat a great many medical conditions. Most of us take prescription medications. If all goes well, the drug works for you as it is supposed to. But there is no "magic bullet", or medication that works the same for everyone without any risks or side effects. Basically, a side effect is an unexpected occurrence that results from using a drug. Side effects can be good or bad, depending on how you take the drug. For instance, antihistamines, used to ease allergy symptoms, such as itchy eyes and sneezing, produce the side effect of making you feel very sleepy. If you are suffering from insomnia, this side effect is good. If you need to fight your allergies and drive your vehicle or function at work, yet, it is bad. The commonest cause of side effects is the fact that prescription medicines are highly concentrated and normally do not exist in nature, so they badly affect the liver. Once your liver is chronically stressed out by taking a medicine daily, any other tension you place on it, such as exposure to toxins, can compromise your health. As we get older, the liver works less efficient, so prescription medications affect aging. Side effects can be difficult to notice at first, and you may not refer them to the drug you are taking. Typical examples include mild symptoms of fatigue, weakened muscles, forgetfulness, light-headedness when you first stand up, trouble thinking clearly, untypical depression. Surely, aging can trigger all those effects, but prescription medicines can advance and quicken the process. Once you begin mixing medications the side effects increase and amplify. When some medications interact, they may get dangerous, ineffective or lead to potential health problems. Sometimes, drug-to-drug interactions might trigger serious side effects, which might range from mild to deadly. Prescription drugs may interact with each other and with non-prescription medications.
